Los Angeles City Council revisits medical marijuana ordinance

December 8th, 2009 by mc2 No comments »

Earlier this morning, the Los Angeles City Council held a meeting at City Hall to speak upon the ordinance surrounding medical marijuana dispensaries.  We need everyone to contact their City Council representative and request for changes found here at the ASA’s online community forum.

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles City Council will revisit a proposed medical marijuana ordinance that could shutter many of the dispensaries that have cropped up.

Council members last month hammered out some guidelines for the ordinance that included capping the number of dispensaries between 70 and 200.   They plan to review the ordinance again on Tuesday.

The council also opted to allow cash reimbursement at those clinics.   Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley has said he will go after pot dispensaries involved in over-the-counter sales.

City officials are trying to come up with an ordinance that addresses medicinal marijuana and figure out if the ordinance is permissible under state law.   Hundreds of pot dispensaries have opened their doors in Los Angeles over the past couple of years.

The herb helps keep Alanis Morisette’s creative juices flowing

December 8th, 2009 by mc2 No comments »

Not only am I a big fan of the herb (holla!!), but growing up in the 90s, I was totally in love with Alanis Morisette’s music and her classic videos.  I remember, “Ironic” won Best Female Video in 1996- which was the biggest year for her.

So, today I stumbled upon this article from The Weekly Weed, in which Morissette talks to High Times about using cannabis to get her musical juices flowing and how her boyfriend, medical marijuana advocate Tom Ballanco and fellow celebrity friends have encouraged her to step out and speak about the positive effects of cannabis.

Cash For Pot Is Cheating, Judge Says; City Moves Forward To Allow It Anyway

December 3rd, 2009 by mc2 No comments »

This week a superior court judge ruled that sales of marijuana are flat-out illegal in the state, even under Prop. 215. Judge James Chalfant is following in the footsteps of state Attorney General Jerry Brown, L.A. County District Attorney Steve Cooley and City Attorney Carmen Trutanich in opining that voters did not have retail sales of pot in mind when they voted for a proposition that would allow for the nonprofit, collective cultivation of marijuana for the “seriously ill.”

And still, the council will consider an ordinance Tuesday that will allow for “cash contributions, reimbursements and compensations for the actual expenses of the growth and provision of the collective cultivation of medical marijuana, provided in compliance with state law.” But the proposed law does not, in fact, have any way of finding out and regulating whether an operation is profitable or not.

Marijuana comes to the rescue for Autistic child

November 23rd, 2009 by mc2 No comments »

Today I stumbled upon this article that speaks upon the topic of how cannabis can help with autistic treatment.   Once again, proof that cannabis can be used as a natural alternative medicine.   Here’s the article:

MOM: Marijuana Saved My Autistic Son’s Life

Kids may seem an unlikely group to include in the medical marijuana debate, but some children with autism are reaping life-changing benefits from the drug. Mieko Hester-Perez, a mother in California, told the Early Show’s Hattie Kauffman that marijuana saved her son’s life.

Hester-Perez’s 10-year-old son, Joey, was uninterested in food and weighed a startling 48 pounds. “Everyone that came to my home was watching me watch Joey die,” Hester-Perez told Kauffman. “He was deteriorating hourly.”

Tips on visiting the Doctor’s Office

A medical marijuana recommendation.  What is it and how do I get one?  When did it become legal?  How does one qualify for one?  While working at MC2 (Medical Cannabis Consultants), a medical marijuana doctors office, there are times when I get bombarded with questions about the process of obtaining a medical marijuana recommendation.  Questions may vary from, “How do I know if I’m eligible to get a prescription?” to “If I was prescribed painkillers for a condition in the past, can I use that document?”
The medical use of marijuana in California became legal with the unveiling of Proposition 215 (also known as the Compassionate Use Act).  Established in 1996, patients are allowed to grow, consume and possess (marijuana) cannabis with a doctors letter of recommendation as a treatment to relieve problematic symptoms and illnesses.

A medical marijuana recommendation.  What is it and how do I get one?  When did it become legal?  How does one qualify for one?  While working at MC2, there are times when I get bombarded with questions about the process of obtaining a medical marijuana recommendation.

Here are some of the most common questions that patients ask and some tips to better understand the process of getting your recommendation:

“How do I know if I’m eligible to get a recommendation?”

The assertion that all medical marijuana is strictly for terminally ill patients is misleading.  Patients   are eligible for a recommendation if they are suffering from symptoms that cannot be relieved through traditional forms of medicine.

Such symptoms include:

Depression, anxiety, arthritis, back and spine pain, chronic pain, cramps, insomnia, migraines, nausea, spinal injury and many more.

“Do I need to bring in an original doctor’s note or medical records before I visit the doctor?”

Potential patients do not have to bring in any medical records because it is between the doctor and you. An exception would be if the patient suffers from a serious illness, such as cancer.  If that is the case, he/she cannot grow more than 6 mature or 12 immature marijuana plants.  Aside from that, yourself is the only thing you need to bring.

“Is the doctor going to be legit?”

Yes, all medical cannabis doctors are certified and are there to help and educate you about how to treat your symptoms with cannabis as a natural alternative to prescribed medications.  All doctors are professional and will offer advice about the most effective strains to ease your pain.

“Is it safe to use marijuana as a medicine to treat symptoms?”

Yes, in fact not a single case of death has ever been recorded in the United States, as a result of the use of marijuana.  Tobacco remains the number one cause of death in the U.S, followed by alcohol and adverse reactions to prescription drugs, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.

Many patients have not been able to obtain relief from their symptoms through traditional forms of medicine and are concerned about the side effects of prescribed medications to treat illness and injury.  So, if you think you qualify for a medical marijuana recommendation and want to use cannabis as a natural holistic medicine, visit the doctor’s office to pre-qualify and get evaluated.

The American Medical Association reconsiders marijuana’s classification as a dangerous drug

November 12th, 2009 by mc2 1 comment »

The American Medical Assn. on Tuesday urged the federal government to reconsider its classification of marijuana as a dangerous drug with no accepted medical use, a significant shift that puts the prestigious group behind calls for more research.

The nation’s largest physicians organization, with about 250,000 member doctors, the AMA has maintained since 1997 that marijuana should remain a Schedule I controlled substance, the most restrictive category, which also includes heroin and LSD.

In changing its policy, the group said its goal was to clear the way to conduct clinical research, develop cannabis-based medicines and devise alternative ways to deliver the drug.

What symptoms can Marijuana help?

October 28th, 2009 by mc2 No comments »

Migraines… they suck.  There was a period of time where I constantly had migraines due to stress, anxiety and instances of insomnia.  I tried all kinds of treatments, including sleeping and anti-anxiety pills, but they ended up making things worse.  Then I found out about Proposition 215.  Established in 1996, this proposition allows patients to grow, consume & possess (marijuana) cannabis with a doctors letter of recommendation as a treatment for a wide variety of such symptoms as:

Aids

Anorexia

Anxiety

Arthiritis

Chronic Fatigue/Pain

Cramps

Depression

Epilepsy

Glaucoma

Insomnia

Migraines

Nausea

PMS

Spinal Injury and much more…..

The decision to consume cannabis as a natural medicine for my symptoms has been one of the best decisions I’ve made and have highly recommended it to fellow symptom sufferers!
